Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cans (21 ounces each) apple pie filling
  • 1 bag (11 ounces), unwrapped caramels
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 box (15.25 ounces) yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup (optional) chopped pecans

Instructions

Preparation

  • Spread both cans of apple pie filling evenly over the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

Caramel Sauce

  • In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the unwrapped caramels and water. Microwave on high for 1-2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds until the caramels are melted and smooth.
  • Pour the melted caramel sauce evenly over the apple pie filling in the baking dish.

Assembly and Baking

  • Evenly sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix over the caramel and apple layers.
  • Pour the melted butter slowly and evenly over the cake mix, ensuring most of the dry mix is covered.
  • If desired, sprinkle the chopped pecans over the top of the cake.
  • Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.

Serving

  • Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. This dump cake is delicious served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the apple pie filling. If you don't have a microwave, you can melt the caramels and water in a saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth.
