Equipment

  • Steamer or large pot
  • Small bowl
  • Whisk
  • Large skillet or wok
  • Serving dish

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb green beans trimmed
  • 2 tbsp white miso paste
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp mirin
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

Preparation

  • Steam or blanch the trimmed green beans until tender-crisp, then immediately drain and set aside.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the miso paste, soy sauce, mirin, sesame oil, and water until smooth to create the miso glaze.

Cooking

  • Heat a large skillet or wok over medium heat, then add the cooked green beans.
  • Pour the miso glaze over the green beans and toss to coat evenly, cooking for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the beans.
  • Remove from heat, transfer to a serving dish, and sprinkle with sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the miso glaze for a subtle kick. Ensure the green beans are not overcooked; they should retain a slight crunch.
