Instructions

  • Slice the bread into 1-inch thick pieces if not already sliced, and arrange them in a single layer in a lightly greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
  • Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread slices, ensuring all pieces are thoroughly soaked.
  • Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, allowing the bread to absorb the liquid.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and remove the casserole from the refrigerator 30 minutes before baking.
  • Bake uncovered for 45-55 minutes, or until the casserole is golden brown and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with your favorite toppings like syrup, fresh fruit, or powdered sugar.

Notes

For an extra touch, you can sprinkle a streusel topping over the casserole before baking. This casserole is perfect for holiday brunches or feeding a crowd due to its make-ahead convenience.
